Hockey pant size chart
Hockey pants are sized by waist, with height as the check. Measure around your waist with a soft tape and match it to the brand's chart; if waist and height point to different sizes, CCM says to go by the waist. A Bauer senior medium fits a 32" to 36" waist and a 5'7" to 5'11" player.1,2 A girdle is the padding alone, a fitted padded short worn under a separate shell, and it follows the same waist and height sizing.3

How to measure for hockey pants
- CCM: measure waist circumference just above the hip bones.2
- CCM: measure height to confirm the level.2
- CCM: if waist and height point to different sizes, go by waist circumference first.2
- Warrior chart (via HockeyMonkey): measure the natural waistline, above the hip bones and below the rib cage, with the tape snug. Measure the hips at the fullest part. Players with a larger build should size up.8
- True chart (via HockeyMonkey): measure the waist just above the belly button.12
- Girdles: measure around the torso, just above the hips, with a soft tape.6
- Icebox: measure the natural waist, not where pants normally sit.5

Girdle vs pants
- Hockey pants are one piece, with padding built into an outer nylon shell. A girdle is the padding alone, a fitted padded short worn under a separate shell.3,4,5
- A girdle does not include the outer nylon shell. It is worn under a hockey shell, which makes changing team colors easy.3
- Many players choose girdles for the easy shell swap, which helps when playing for more than one team with different colors.6
- Girdles fit tighter and closer to the body, with more range of motion. Pants have a roomier, more traditional fit.6,7
- Girdles and shells are lighter and more flexible than traditional pants but usually offer less protection.4
- Both pants and girdles are used at the professional level.3
- Pants and girdles follow the same sizing guidelines, based on height and waist.3
- HockeyMonkey's Warrior girdle chart uses the same waist and height table as the Warrior pant chart.8,9
- Shells come in their own sizes: CCM Pant Shell 15 in Senior S–XXL plus Junior and Youth, and Warrior Alpha Girdle Shell Senior in S–2XL. Warrior says its shell works best with its girdles.10,11
How hockey pants should fit
- Standing in pants, the bottom edge usually sits one or two inches above the kneecap of the shin guard.4
- Pants that are too small leave the top of the knee unprotected. Pants that are too big can hit the shin guards and hinder mobility.4
- Icebox: pants should reach just above the knee, or slightly higher, depending on preference and playing style.5
- Fit styles differ by line. CCM Super Tacks pants have a traditional, wider fit; JetSpeed pants have an anatomical fit that sits close to the body.4
- CCM Next junior pants have a reworked anatomical fit that sits closer to the body, a lace front and a padded belt.13
- Some pants have adjustable length for growth: CCM Tacks Pro has a hidden +1 length extension, and True Catalyst 9X4 has a 2” extendable length.2,14
- Warrior Alpha girdle: a tailored pro fit that follows the natural skating posture, with foam and plastic protection that secures to the legs and hips.7
Where the brands disagree
- Waist measuring point: CCM says just above the hip bones. The True reprint says just above the belly button. The Warrior reprint says the natural waist, above the hip bones and below the rib cage. Icebox says the natural waist, not where pants sit.
- Senior Medium waist: CCM 31.1–35 in. Warrior 32"-34". True 32"-36".
- Senior Small height: CCM 5'2"–5'5". Warrior 5'4"-5'9". True 5'5"-5'9".
- Junior Large waist: CCM 27–31 in. Warrior 26"-28". True 26"-28".
- The HockeyMonkey general girdle chart labels kid sizes Junior and Intermediate, with Junior Small at 20" - 22". CCM calls 20–21.5 in Youth Small and 23–25 Junior Small. Brand level names do not line up.
- Pant length: HockeyMonkey says one or two inches above the shin guard kneecap. Icebox says just above the knee or slightly higher. The True reprint's inseam advice mentions covering the top of the skate boot, which matches neither and reads like generic pant advice.
