Hockey jersey size chart
Measure the chest width of the jersey flat across, 1 inch below the armhole, and buy it to fit over your shoulder pads: if your measurement falls on or near a chart value, go one size up.1 NHL authentic jerseys use numbered sizes. The current Fanatics Authentic Pro runs 48 to 58+, from a 23.25" to a 29.25" chest, and the older Adidas authentics ran 46, 50, 52, 54, 56 and up.2,3,4 A goalie cut is wider through the chest, arms and shoulders with a longer hem.5
How to measure a hockey jersey
- Put on all upper-body hockey gear, then measure chest width (A, 1" below the armhole), jersey length (B, bottom hem to highest shoulder point) and sleeve length (C, center of neck to sleeve opening).1,9
- Bauer measures the jersey itself: chest width 1" below the armhole; front body length from the high point of the shoulder straight down to the bottom hem; sleeve length from the center back neck seam to the sleeve join, then pivot to the bottom sleeve hem.6
- Most jersey charts list garment measurements, not body measurements. Bauer's PWHL youth guide measures chest circumference about 1 inch (2.5 cm) below the armhole around the garment.14,15
- A chest width on a jersey chart is usually measured flat across the garment, armpit to armpit. Do not double it unless the chart asks for circumference.15
- The most reliable method is to lay flat a jersey that already fits over the player's equipment and compare its chest width, body length and sleeve length with the chart for the exact style being ordered.15
- Practice jersey charts at HockeyMonkey use (A) armpit to armpit, (B) top to bottom and (C) sleeve to sleeve.3,5
- For body measurements, CCM measures chest around the fullest part of the chest.16,17
NHL jersey sizes at a glance
- Fanatics replaced Adidas as the NHL's outfitter of on-ice uniforms and authentic jerseys beginning with the 2024-25 season; Fanatics has made the NHL replica jerseys since 2017.18
- The current NHL on-ice jersey is the Fanatics Authentic Pro, sold in sizes 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 58+, with chest from 23.25" (48) to 29.25" (58+).2,3
- A Fanatics Authentic Pro size 52 measures 25.25" across the chest with a 34" back length.2
- On the Adidas MiC authentic (2017-2024), size 52 was listed as Large, 54 as XL and 56 as XXL.4
- On the Fanatics Authentic Pro, a collector guide maps size 52 to XL and size 48 to M-L.4
- Bauer's youth goalie cut practice jersey (Y-GC) has a 25.5" chest width; the senior GOALIE size has a 32.25" chest width.7,8
- CCM's 5000 practice jersey comes in junior sizes XS, S/M, L/XL and goalie, and senior S-2XL plus intermediate and senior goalie sizes (INTG, SRG).16,17
- The CCM 5000 senior goalie cut (SR GC) is 32" across the chest versus 28" for SR XXL.9
- Measure a hockey jersey with all upper-body gear on, and size up one if your chest falls on or near a chart value.1

Fit: practice, game and goalie cut
- If your chest measurement is close to or on a chart value, choose one size larger. A jersey that is too small can restrict range of motion. Go one size up for a looser fit.1,9
- Ice Warehouse charts may vary by +/- 1.5" from the listed measurements.1,9
- CCM practice jersey sizing and fit changed from previous Reebok and CCM jerseys, so older charts may not match.9
- CCM's senior guidance for the PJ 5000 (size XL) lists chest 114-122 cm and advises allowing the extra room needed when wearing the jersey over protective equipment.19
- NHL numbered sizes typically track chest: a size 46 is about 23" pit to pit and a size 50 about 25" pit to pit.4
- Hockey jerseys fit loose, so most people go down one size from their T-shirt size (for example, a Large T-shirt wearer may prefer a Medium jersey).4
- Sizes ending in "G" (for example 58-G) are goalie cut, with wider sleeves and torso.4
- Fanatics Authentic Pro jerseys are made by SP Apparel in Quebec, the same factory that made NHL on-ice jerseys through most of the Adidas era; base construction is intentionally similar to the Adidas version.4
- Fanatics Premium is the closest equivalent to the old Adidas retail authentic jersey; Breakaway is the replica tier.4
- Adidas retail authentic jerseys (made in Indonesia) use a stretchier material than Made in Canada on-ice authentics.4
- A goalie cut jersey has a broader, more relaxed fit through the chest, arms and shoulders, wider sleeves, and a longer back hem to cover the pants when crouched.5
- Goalies should use a goalie chart rather than ordering a regular player jersey several sizes larger; goalie cuts use different body and sleeve proportions to fit over a chest protector and arm equipment.15
- A goalie jersey that is too large can bunch or shift; one that is too small may not fit over chest and shoulder protection.5
- Use the chart for the exact jersey style being ordered; charts differ between manufacturers and between player and goalie cuts.5,15
- Sizing information is provided by the manufacturer and does not guarantee a perfect fit.3
Where the charts disagree
- Fanatics Authentic Pro chest: ICE District/HockeyMonkey Fanatics chart lists 48 = 23.25", 50 = 24.25", 52 = 25.25"; the Grail Snipes collector guide lists 48 = 24", 50 = 25", 52 = 26" and adds a size 46 at 23".
- Adidas authentic chest: the Adidas/Fanatics Premium table lists 46 = 21.5", 50 = 22.5", 52 = 23.5"; Grail Snipes lists Adidas retail authentic 46 = 23", 50 = 25", 52 = 26". The same table is labeled 'Adidas Hockey Authentic' by Altitude Authentics and 'Fanatics Premium' by ICE District and HockeyMonkey.
- Letter equivalents: Adidas/Premium tables put 52 = Large; Grail Snipes puts Fanatics Authentic Pro 52 = XL and 50 = L-XL.
- The Adidas/Fanatics Premium table skips sizes 48 and 58 (46 Small, then 50 Medium; 56 XX-Large, then 60), while Fanatics Authentic Pro starts at 48.
- Bauer senior practice jersey: Ice Warehouse reprint lists SR MD chest 29" and SR LG 27.5"; Bauer's own chart lists M = 26.5" and L = 27.5". The Ice Warehouse MD value appears to be an error; the Bauer values are used in charts.
- CCM senior practice chest: Ice Warehouse CCM chart lists SR SM 22", MD 24", LG 26", XL 28", XXL 28"; HockeyMonkey's CCM practice chart lists S 21", M 23", L 25", XL 27", XXL 29". Model and measuring point may differ.
- Firstar: Ice Warehouse lists SR SM 23", SR GC 32" chest; HockeyMonkey lists Senior Small 22", Senior Goalie 28".
- Grail Snipes says most people go down one size from their T-shirt size for NHL jerseys; Ice Warehouse says to size up when the chest is near a chart value for jerseys worn over gear. The first refers to fan wear of NHL authentics, the second to playing jerseys over pads.
