Hockey stick sizing guide
A stick has three choices: length, flex (stiffness) and curve. Here is what the brands say about each, and which flexes and curves stores have in stock at each level.
How to pick a size
Length
In shoes, the stick should come to about your nose. On skates, it should come between your chin and bottom lip. Cutting a stick makes it stiffer (higher flex); adding an extension makes it softer.
Source: Bauer stick buying guideStanding straight with the stick upright in front of you, look for one that reaches between your chin and nose. Bauer ties length to flex: lower-flex sticks are shorter.
Source: Bauer flex guideWith skates on, the stick should reach between your chin and nose. Shorter gives more puck control; longer gives more reach and power. It is fine to buy a little long and cut it down.

Start with a flex number a little less than half your body weight in pounds. A higher number is stiffer, a lower number is whippier.

Flex and curve are partly personal preference, so use these as starting points. Curve names belong to each brand: compare the two charts above and you will see Bauer lists its P88 as open while CCM lists its P88 as closed.
